An Elizabethan Entertainment
Julie Harris & Janet Youngdahl, sopranos; Victor Coelho, lute
Three outstanding Calary-based musicians specializing in theRenaissance song repertoire.
Soprano Julie Harris has appeared as a soloist with Tafelmusik, the Toronto Chamber Choir, Elora Festival Singers and the Calgary Bach Festival Society. She has roles in Baroque opera with Opera Atelier in Blow's Venus and Adonis, and Monteverdi's Orfeo with the Toronto Consort. She created and organizes the Early Music Voices Concert Series, now in its fourth season in Calgary.
Janet Youngdahl, soprano, has performed and recorded internationally with the German Mediaeval ensemble Sequentia. Recent performances have included the Proms at Royal Albert Hall, the Utrecht Festival for Early Music and Lincoln Center Summer Music Festival. A seasonal instructor at the University of Calgary, she has specialized in historical performance practice.
Victor Coelho is professor of music at the University of Calgary and an internationallyknown musicologist and performer. A graduate of Berkley and UCLA, he was awarded the Noah Greenberg award outstanding contributions to performance. Upcoming recordings include music for the 1608 Medici wedding. A prolific writer and performer, he is also director and lead guitartist in the Rooster Blues Band.
Join us for music from the time of Elizabeth I. Besides well-known favourites by John Dowland and Thomas Campion, explore not-so-familiar duets and solos byThomas Morley and Robert Jones. This will be a delightful evening of music-making from the courts and country houses of Elizabethan England.

Quatuor Arthur LeBlanc
with Dang Thai Son, piano
New Brunswick has a secret — and that's the QAL! The quartet is into its second decade with brio,performing widely nationally and internationally. The quartet takes its name from Arthur LeBlanc,a great violinist of Acadian descent who had an international career in the mid-20th century. Possessing an extensive repertoire, the quartet has enchanted audiences with its flexible and subtle musicianship.
Vietnamese pianist Dang Thai Son was propelled to international fame in 1980 when he won the First Prize and Gold Medal at the 10th International Chopin Competition. Mr. Son has been a Canadian citizen since 1995. Besides being an outstanding soloist, he is a gifted chamber musician — as this concert's collaboration shows!
