This year ECMS is pleased to present Andrew Wan (violin) and Judy Kang (violin) alongside eight of North America’s premier chamber musicians in the 2013 Summer Solstice Festival.

Once again, Artistic Director Patricia Tao has created programs that span time, place, and musical genre.

This three-concert festival will showcase the works of prodigies such as Mozart, Mendelssohn and Albéniz, celebrate the musical idioms of 20th century America with works by Copland, Schickele, Corigliano and John Adams, and as in past years, highlight favorite classics from the chamber music repertoire.

MUSICAL PRODIGIES

They all exhibited exceptional gifts at a young age and continued to develop their talents late into their lives. Come hear Mozart’s sublime Clarinet Quintet completed two years before his death, as well as El Albaicín and Málaga from Albéniz’s piano masterwork Iberia, plus great works by Barber, Mendelssohn and Saint-Saëns.

MUSIC OF AMERICA

Explore the many facets of American music. Enjoy the lighter side with the blues and jazz inflections of Copland’s Nocturne and Ukulele Serenade and the lively rhythms of John Adams’ John’s Book of Alleged Dances. Settle in for more intimate works by contemporary composers John Corigliano, Mark O’Connor, and Aaron Jay Kernis.
